Qibla finder

The Qibla is the direction of the Kaaba in Makkah. Choose a city or enter coordinates to see the bearing from true north and the distance.

Select a city.

How the bearing is calculated

The Qibla is the initial bearing of the great-circle path from your location to the Kaaba (21.4225° N, 39.8262° E). On a flat map this line looks curved, which is why the direction from North America to Makkah points north-east rather than straight east.

The page uses the standard spherical formula and gives the same bearing as the open-source Adhan library used in the app.

Using a phone compass

Phone magnetometers are often off by 10 degrees or more, and metal, cases and magnets make it worse. Calibrate by moving the phone in a figure 8, stay away from metal, and cross-check with the sun's position if you can. The app's Qibla view can use your device compass or a manual heading.
