Why my Fajr notification did not ring on iPhone

Missing Fajr because a phone stayed quiet is frustrating. The usual causes are settings, not bugs. Go through this list in order.

Check these first

  1. Silent switch. On iPhones with a Ring/Silent switch, a notification from an app does not play its sound when the phone is silenced; it only vibrates. Alarms in the Clock app are different and do ring.
  2. Focus and Do Not Disturb. A Focus (for example Sleep) can silence all notifications unless you allow the app. In Settings, Focus, open your Sleep focus and check Apps allowed.
  3. Notification permission. Settings, Notifications, the app: Allow Notifications on, Sounds on, and the delivery set to Immediate rather than Scheduled Summary.
  4. Notification sound length. App notification sounds are short, often capped at around 30 seconds, easy to sleep through.
  5. Low Power Mode and background limits. They can delay background work. Prefer system-scheduled alerts (calendar, Clock) for critical wake-ups.
  6. Time zone and city. Check that the city in the app matches where you are. Automatic time zone should be on.

The most reliable fix

Use a system alarm for Fajr: either an alarm in the Clock app for the week, or the calendar file exported from the Month view of Sakina. System-level alarms are not affected by an app being closed. You can also pair this with a quiet in-app reminder.

What Sakina's web app can and cannot do

The web app shows reminders only while it is open, which is why we recommend the calendar export for wake-ups. Details are in Fajr alarm. These details can vary with iOS versions, so check your own device after any update.

Frequently asked questions

Does Do Not Disturb stop the Clock alarm?

A Clock alarm is not silenced by Do Not Disturb or by the Silent switch, but volume matters. Test it once.

Why did it ring yesterday but not today?

Look for a Focus schedule, a new Silent switch position, or Low Power Mode that came on overnight.
